Emergency Airway and Bleeding: Ten Minutes Saves a Life

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

Recognize the signs of airway compromise in the trauma patient — excessive bleeding, obstruction, and declining level of consciousness — and apply a stepwise escalation of airway management: jaw thrust/chin lift with bag-mask ventilation, supraglottic airway (LMA/iGEL), endotracheal intubation, and surgical airway (cricothyrotomy).
Identify life-threatening hemorrhage using clinical indicators, differentiate arterial from venous bleeding, and estimate the severity of blood loss in adult and pediatric patients.
Apply immediate hemorrhage-control techniques, including direct pressure, deep wound packing with hemostatic gauze, tourniquet and junctional control, and management of severe epistaxis with nasal packing devices, adjunctive agents, and TXA.
