Facial Trauma Management: From Novice to Expert
Friday September 11, 2026 11:00am - 12:00pm MDT
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Apply a systematic approach to the initial assessment of facial trauma, distinguishing emergent injuries (airway compromise, unstable fractures, intracranial injury) from those appropriate for delayed or outpatient management (dentoalveolar, TMJ, and simple soft tissue injuries).
  2. Select appropriate imaging for facial trauma — including maxillofacial, orbital, head, and cervical spine CT and panoramic radiography — and identify which injuries require hospital transfer versus local or office-based management.
  3. Describe the management of common facial injuries, including simple versus complex lacerations, epistaxis, displaced and avulsed teeth, and TMJ injuries, along with appropriate antibiotic selection, pain management, and return-to-play criteria.
